RTDNA Canada recognizes Susan Marjetti with a National Lifetime Achievement Award

"On behalf of RTDNA Canada, I want to congratulate all of you recognized with a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award. Even more important, I want to thank each of you for the contribution you have made to our industry."

After almost 45 years in both private and public media, working in markets large and small, Susan Marjetti retired at the end of February. As General Manager of News, Current Affairs and Local Services, Susan was a fearless champion of CBC and public broadcasting, especially for under-represented and diverse communities from coast to coast to coast. Under her leadership CBC local services expanded, opening new stations and bureaus across the country as CBC News integrated all of its journalistic resources and led the teams that launched new streaming services to reach people on their platform of choice.

Prior to GM Susan worked as Executive Director of Radio and Audio ( 2015 to 2019) where she led a team that launched the CBC podcast unit, saw radio’s audiences buck all trends and grow its audio offerings on both traditional and new platforms. At the same time CBC Listen was born. Her own journalism has been honoured countless times over the years but it was her strong leadership in equity, diversity and inclusion where Susan blazed new trails receiving the Rosalie Trailblazer Award, as well as being honoured at the Harry Jerome Awards and Innoversity. She was also inducted into the Wall of Fame at Toronto Metropolitan (Ryerson) University. From 2001 to 2015 Susan was in charge of CBC Toronto and the Ontario Region and her vision and strategy to ensure CBC looked and sounded like the communities it served helped catapult the Toronto station to the top of the market.

An innovative leader, and award winning journalist and programmer, Susan credits a great team. ‘I have worked with some of the best in the business. If we have made any kind of difference …we did so…together.’
