In this session, we’ll take a deep dive into the type of leader you are by learning more about your strengths and areas of opportunity. After decades of conferences in June, why change now? The schedule for June conferences and galas has become a crowded one. Let’s face it, there is never a “slow time” in our business. The RTDNA Canada board voted to push the conference to the fall for practical reasons and also because it is an optimal time. New ideas, new approaches typically debut in the fall.
The National Conference will build on that momentum. The exchange of ideas, best practices, networking, and recruiting, fuels creativity and this year’s conference committee has put together a schedule of sessions that look to the future. Panels will also focus on solutions to challenges all newsrooms face, providing valuable takeaways.
The forever shifting media landscape demands adaptability and change. The RTDNA 2023 conference is about constructively looking at the challenges we face, including how to leverage new technology rather than be replaced by it, how to attract and retain the next generation of journalists even as business models shift, and how to defend and champion our credibility in an era of increasing backlash, fakes and disinformation.
We’ll also be celebrating the incredible resilience of the news industry so far. At this year’s conference, we’re opting for less talk, more action. As the voice of broadcast and digital journalists and news managers and leaders in Canada, we want to help our members map the future of news with the best ideas, tools and techniques to ensure journalism remains vibrant, trusted and sustainable.
Our Awards Gala, which will be held the evening of October 21, honours the best work of the year and the people who have made a difference, and reinforces why we became journalists, and why we need more of them.
