Nancy Allen has been a fixture in the CTV London (CFPL-TV) newsroom for more than 54 years.  Starting her career in the editing department on June 11th,1970 Nancy worked hard and became chief editor in the early 1980’s.  Always a people person Nancy taught countless new hires how to cut and splice film on the Steenbeck flatbed editors.

In the early 1980s Nancy took control again adapting to one-inch editing and teaching camera operators, the then new system which eventually changed to three-quarter inch and eventually to half inch Betacam.  With only one or two editing facilities available in the newsroom, Nancy was in charge of ushering people in and out to quickly edit their stories in a timely fashion for the 6:00 news.

With the arrival of digital editing, Nancy was again on the cutting edge making sure that the job was completed correctly. Besides her duties as editing chief and well before computers, Nancy also meticulously archived all the news stories, making it simple for reporters to dig up file footage and information.

Asked countless times why she continued to work at CTV London well past her retirement eligibility, Nancy would always respond with the same answer, “It’s the people,”

And now upon her retirement, it’s those same people Nancy has touched throughout the decades who owe her a debt of gratitude for a lifetime of showing them the way.

Nominator: Tom McConnell, CTV London
