This past summer, trusted colleague, friend, and mentor, Mark Blanchard passed away suddenly at his home in Nova Scotia at the age of 55.

Over his award-winning career, Mark worked at various media outlets including The Chronicle Herald, the Halifax Daily NewThe Washington PostCBC Radio, Standard Broadcast News, CTV News, CNN, and Global News, where he spent over 23 years working as a writer, producer, technical producer, and most recently as Manager, Resources and News Gathering.

During his over two decades at Global News, he covered the biggest news events around the world. From wars to natural disasters, elections to coups, coronations to state funerals, Mark always got crews where they needed to be, helped keep them safe even in the most dangerous circumstances, and made sure they were able to file, quite literally, from anywhere.

Resourceful, creative, tenacious, thorough, and always prepared, he had a thirst for innovation and embraced new technologies.

Mark is survived by his wife Carrie, son Alex and daughter Emma.
