About Ken
Ken MacDonald is an accomplished journalist, senior media executive, executive producer, and producer. MacDonald is the former Vice-President and General Manager of Discovery Channel Canada. Over his 15 years at Discovery, he oversaw the commissioning of the most successful slate of Canadian factual and scripted series in the network’s history, including Frontier, Highway Through Hell, Heavy Rescue 401, Canada’s Worst Driver, Coldwater Cowboys, and Jade Fever.
Prior to his years at Discovery, he was national vice-president in-charge of news and information programming for the Global Television Network in Canada. In that role he launched the network’s first national newscast Global National and oversaw the expansion of the network into Quebec. He previously served as Global’s Ottawa Bureau Chief, reporting daily on national and international affairs.
He began his on-air career in radio, before becoming a local television reporter forCHCH-TV in Hamilton, and later for CBC Ottawa where he also served as SeniorProducer of the supper hour newscast. MacDonald is currently co-founder and executive producer of Short Street Media, a diverse Canadian media company currently working in factual and scripted production as well as short-form digital programming and media consulting.
