RTDNA Canada recognizes Jeff Bollenbach with a Prairie Region Lifetime Achievement Award

About Jeff

I just wanted to be a reporter!

Majored in political science at the University of Manitoba so I always gravitated to political stories.

Started in radio in Cranbrook BC, then southern Manitoba and then Edmonton. Opportunity to move to television came at CFQC in 1987 where I started anchoring news shows which also meant writing and producing which I enjoyed.

A short stint at ITV as the Alberta legislative reporter came to an end in 1993 with an opportunity to anchor The Provincial news program in Saskatchewan. This was followed by a few years as the political editor for CTV Saskatchewan in Regina along with co-anchoring the 6pm news at CKCK.

The opportunity to guide the direction of news and be more involved in producing came with the News Director position at Global Regina in 1991. CTV Winnipeg came calling in 2002 and as news director was involved in moving the entire television station from Polo Park to downtown Winnipeg which was an incredible experience.

I moved on to manage the newsrooms at Global Calgary in 2008 and then Global Vancouver in 2012. This was a period of significant change including digital production, virtual sets and of course the evolution of moving content on line. A further opportunity to help shape the future of news came with the launch of the regional news channel BC1 in Vancouver.

Back to Winnipeg in 2015 as General Manager for Bell Media television and radio for Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

A bit of hopping around but very fortunate and grateful for opportunities I could never have imagined. I also worked with, and learned from, some of the best people in the business, creating friendships for life.
