Broadcast news was in Hugh Haugland’s blood, his father was former CTV news anchor Bill Haugland. Hugh got his start as an editor at CFCF in Montreal.
Hugh’s skill as an editor and camera operator, his positive attitude and work ethic pushed him up through the ranks quickly and soon he was recruited by CTV National News. He covered some of the biggest stories of our time including 911, Hurricane Katrina, the London bombings, and the Persian Gulf war. Tragically, in August 2009, Haugland was killed in a helicopter crash while shooting video of the destruction left behind by a tornado that swept through western Quebec. Hugh Haugland was 44.
